🇬🇧 The majestic giant eland has been a flagship species of the Antelope Conservation team for 25 years. The experience and expertise gained in Senegal with the conservation of the critically endangered Western giant eland is now being capitalised in cooperation with African Parks on the eastern extreme of the giant eland range, launching new studies of Eastern giant eland in Chinko - African Parks, CAR. During our pilot fieldwork with the Chinko team, we experienced walking eland trails with the local trackers, enjoying footprints, droppings, broken branches and the smell of elands close to us, successfully disappearing from our reach for the whole 17km walk. We finally spotted them from the car, after a long drive, and also from the ultralight aircraft. What a pleasure for an eland researcher! 🇫🇷 Le majestueux éland de Derby est une espèce phare de l'équipe de Antelope Conservation depuis 25 ans. L'expérience et l'expertise acquises au Sénégal en matière de conservation de l'éland de Derby occidental, en danger critique de disparition, peuvent maintenant être capitalisées en coopération avec African Parks à l'extrémité orientale de l'aire de répartition de l'éland de Derby, en lançant de nouvelles études sur l'éland de Derby oriental dans la région Chinko-RCA. 🇬🇧 Year 2005 Research on large mammals, bats and fish is underway as part of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic project in the Niokolo Koba National Park in Senegal. Pavla Hejcmanová is defending her dissertation thesis on the distribution and feeding ecology of the last wild individuals of the Western Giant eland in Niokolo Koba. This work will become the cornerstone for the creation of an internationally recognised team, which is currently the only one in the world exclusively engaged in the protection of antelopes of West and Central Africa - Antelope Conservation. 🇨🇿 Rok 2005 V národním parku Niokolo Koba v Senegalu probíhá výzkum velkých savců, netopýrů a ryb v rámci projektu Akademie Věd České Republiky. Pavla Hejcmanová obhajuje svou disertační práci zabývající se rozšířením a potravní ekologií posledních divokých jedinců antilopy Derbyho v Niokolo Koba.
